35A KT Controller + KT-LCD8H Color Display — Rad Power Upgrade Kit
Wake up your Rad Power e-bike. This 35A KT controller and KT-LCD8H color display replace your stock controller and display to push more current to your motor — which means more power, more torque, and stronger acceleration.
It's also the controller required to run the high-wind version of our RadRunner 1000W Motor Wheel. The high-wind motor needs an aftermarket controller like this one to reach its higher top speed.
Programmable color display
The KT-LCD8H display is bright and vivid in any light, and fully programmable. Remove the 20 mph speed limit, tune power output to your preference, set 5 levels of pedal assist, use cruise control, and more — all from the handlebars.
Easy install
A straight swap: pull your stock controller and display, then install ours in reverse order — no splicing, no soldering. It ships as a universal kit, so on some bikes the controller sits a little differently than stock and may not drop into the exact factory location — plan to mount it nearby. The controller has a tail-light plug that goes unused on some models.

Confirmed working:
- RadRover 2016–2021, up to Rover 5 — plug-and-play
- RadRunner and RadRunner Plus — tested and working (Runner Plus: not with the 500-lumen headlight)
- RadMission — works; we recommend turning max power down
- RadCity / older RadWagon (direct-drive motor) — works with a settings change (P1 = 46 for direct drive)
- RadExpand — cadence-sensor version only
Does NOT work: RadRover 6 (step-over and step-through), RadWagon 5.
Check your bike before ordering: RadRunner Mini and older City/Wagon models — this controller is larger than stock and may not fit the factory mounting location, and may have a different battery plug. Compare your bike to the controller dimensions (7.5" × 3.25" × 1.75") first. Not sure your model's covered? Send us a photo before you order.
Programming & setup
This is a universal controller, so a few settings may need dialing in for your bike — mainly wheel size and the speed-readout parameter (P2 = 5 for a stock motor, 6 for the upgraded 750W), and the current limit (C5) if the system cuts out under load. We include setup guidance, and we're happy to walk you through it by phone or install it for you at our Santa Cruz shop.
A note on speed & legality
Removing the 20 mph limit or running higher power means your bike is no longer a Class 2 e-bike and may not be street-legal where you ride. Many riders use these builds off-road or on private property — check your local laws before unlocking the limit.

FAQ
Will this give me more power on my stock Rad motor?
Yes. The 35A controller feeds your motor more current than the stock controller allows, so you get more power, torque, and acceleration — up to what your motor can handle. Pair it with our high-wind 1000W motor wheel for the full jump.
Do I need to change my battery?
For best results, yes. A controller that draws up to 35A wants a battery (and BMS) rated to deliver that continuously. Your stock pack will work, but a higher-current pack lets the controller reach its full potential without the BMS cutting out under heavy load.
Is it hard to install?
No. It's a plug-in swap of your controller and display in reverse order — no wire splicing. If you're comfortable with a few connectors you can do it at home, or any bike shop can handle it.
Will it work with my Rad Premium headlight?
No. Our controllers only support the standard Rad headlight. If you have the Premium headlight, it won't function with this kit.
